I want to it fuel you. And I know it can. Here's how I know: For a long time, I didn't take care of myself the way I should have, and my work suffered because of it. Of course, I didn't know that at the time. I thought I was doing just fine. Despite the networking I had to do, the client dinners I had to attend, and the (really, really) long hours I put in, I was exceeding expectations.
But I knew I could do better – That I could do more.
And I knew that because I didn't feel or look the way I wanted to. Sure, I skipped sleep to fit in a workout 9 times out of 10. And, truth be told, I thought I ate pretty clean. But I was stressed a lot. And I got headaches. And muscle aches. And I snapped at people I shouldn't have. And I got mad at things that really didn't matter. Luckily, something in me knew that cleaning up my diet would fix a lot of this. So, I dug in and started to learn about food systems, how what you eat affects the body and mind, and what clean eating actually looked like. In other words...
I learned how to make food work for me.
And it changed the game. Without much effort, my mind cleared up. I dropped a pant size. And I was a lot more productive - I'm talking I 10x'd my output. And it was f'cking awesome. And while I am glad that I figured this all out, it took awhile to get there. I didn't have anyone walking me through the steps to clean up my act. I had to teach myself what being healthy meant for my body. I had to figure out which foods and habits worked best for my mind. And I had to find out which foods fueled me and which foods hurt me.
It took a lot longer because of that.
I wish I had someone who took me through the steps to get healthy. Someone who could show me just how to live healthy with a schedule as busy as mine. Someone who was willing to say to me that the diet and health care industry are full of it and that this is what you actually need to do. And someone who knew that sickness is optional.
